HNC CAD: 2D CAD Concepts -

There are many short training courses in 2D CAD. The majority of those courses are of short duration, typically 30 to 60 hrs and concentrate on the user gaining skills in the use of a CAD package. There is insufficient time to provide a knowledge base upon which the student can build with practise and experience, so it is often the case that students, who have completed the short course, wish to know more about Computer Aided Design in order that they may feel more confident in its use and be able to produce drawings of known quality.

The purpose of this 2D Concepts module is to provide the student with complimentary knowledge to the 2D Design module by introducing the ideas and concepts behind the practise.

As demands for drawing and information interchange increase, it will become more important that users can have complete confidence in the information content on the CAD drawing. As more and more software programs interrogate the CAD drawing to produce cutting lists, machining sequences and setting out information, accuracy and consistency becomes the accepted base upon which all drawings must comply.

It is therefore important that you have a good general understanding of how the CAD program works so that the CAD draughter does not introduce errors because of ignorance about how the CAD system works.
