Relative Polar Coordinates
In the diagram below, point 1 is measured from the absolute origin at the large red dot, similar to the Cartesian method.
Now point 2. If the information you have is the distance from point 1 then that distance is known as a relative distance, measured from point 1. To specify the distance we have to use a temporary coordinate system centred at that point. The green box signifies the temporary coordinate system. Now, in relation to this coordinate system, point 2 is -120degrees and 25units away. We still have to measure the angle from the horizontal, with zero to the right and measure in an anti-clockwise direction.
